As the Bay Area tech jobs train barrels full-speed ahead, we extended our annual ranking of San Francisco’s largest tech employers from 50 to 75 companies this year.
And how those San Francisco tech companies have grown.
Collectively, the 75 largest San Francisco tech employers hired 7,000 employees in the city over the past year — jumping from 30,707 workers in January 2014 to 37,782 by January 2015.
We surveyed hundreds of companies to gather data for the list and they sent us some impressive numbers. Tech giant Salesforce added 1,000 workers.
But the hotshot debut award goes to Zenefits. The online human resources software company grew its workforce a whopping 738 percent in San Francisco.
Other fun facts about the 75 largest San Francisco tech employers:
- 75 percent of the companies are actually headquartered in San Francisco.
- 53 percent of the companies were founded in the last 10 years. Zenefits and Pivotal Software are the youngest companies, founded in 2013, while Dolby Laboratories is the oldest company, founded in 1965.
- The average age of a San Francisco tech employee skews a little higher than one might think – 31 years old, according to our survey respondents.
