Global venture capital investment in cleantech fell 33 percent in 2012 year over year, according the San Francisco-based research firm Cleantech Group.
Investment in cleantech was down to $6.46 billion in 2012, from the $9.61 billion the previous year.
Among the factors cited for the drop was economic uncertainty, with companies such as Oakland-based BrightSource Energy being forced to shelve IPO plans and raise new funds from existing investors.
