Even though San Francisco has a reputation for dauntingly high real estate prices, a recent study released by real estate site Zillow shows that Denver, one of SF’s top competitors for the tech sector, is actually more expensive for tech workers than SF.
The Zillow study concluded that tech workers in Denver pocket $140 less per month than tech workers in San Francisco after paying taxes and living expenses. According to Zillow, average home prices in Denver have risen almost 60 percent since February 2009, while rents have risen 50 percent since 2010.
A highly priced real estate market has always been an impediment to businesses in San Francisco despite the city’s thriving tech sector and overall economic fortitude, but this latest news shows that San Francisco real estate may not be as comparatively overpriced as its reputation would imply. The city of San Francisco is a burgeoning tech powerhouse that is well worth the price of admission.
