The Silicon Valley Leadership Group awarded the city of San Francisco with a Business Retention and Expansion award at the group’s inaugural “Turning Red Tape into Red Carpet” awards on December 13. San Francisco won for the Central Market and Tenderloin Payroll Tax Exclusion passed in 2011 which has led large tech companies such as Twitter to move into those areas, revitalizing them.
Steve Wright, senior vice president of the SVLG, said the organization got the idea from the Orange County Business Council. “There are a lot of government entities up here that aren’t all about red tape, they are about trying to change things to make things easier,” he said.
